have two half offers and a definite offer from schools; not bad at so early the year. they're all strange schools, according to my PI, because they're all places specializing in biology- small intense places where u get treated like a junior post doc as opposed to a real university campus with real graduate students (and chix man chix. i don't want no aging stressed out postdocs making up the huge pool of dates man. i am getting old already man). upside of it is that you jump straight in and get immersed, downside is that the pressure starts from day one and you'd be definitely kicked in the arse since well, you're basically thrown straight in and you will definitely screw up in experiments and theres no handholding and u've gotta troubleshoot and troubleshoot well otherwise the PI is gonna have your balls for dinner-u know what i mean. oh, and no formal coursework and shit. which is fine, because coursework is a hinderance in biology, even at graduate level.
now will the real universities tell me whether they think i'm shit or not. come on, its not too hard. i'm tired of waiting
these schools seem inviting to me though, because i'd be actually learning by doing as opposed to sitting on my bum listening and trying to get a minimum GPA so as to meet my sponsor's arbitrary standards. who cares about GPA-s its all empty anyway. why don't they just audit the transcripts in addition to GPA? if you're a dickhead that takes the easy courses to zhng a 4.0, grad schools will think you're a brownnosing, stats worshipping dick- and tell you to fuck off. frankly i'd have more respect for a less-than-3.8 who got his or her ass kicked in high lewel courses, then some play safe future bureaucrat who takes the bare minimum- as opposed to above and beyond requirements. science, in all respects is also about having balls- not a 4.0 GPA y'know. stats... *pfft*
anyway the point is, i'm thoroughly confused though: to go back to a campus or to be thrown in the deepend?
(Edit: one more in. i think the rest told me to fuck off. aha.)
